Arthur Hartmann finalEugene_Ysaye finalViolinissimo’ presents music associated with violinists-composers and violinists-transcribers. Over the years, this particular research focus allowed us to illustrate periods of the violin’s history and the influence of noteworthy violinists on their times.

We invite you again to discover and enjoy the rich fabric of music in its ‘reconstituted’ context and the many coincidences that frequently connect creators and performers.

THE ENTERPRISE QUARTET
~
Catherine Abele, soprano | Jacques Arsenault, tenor | Viktoria Reiswich-Dapp, piano

Monday, March 17, 2014
7:15 PM Lecture | 8:00 PM Concert
Convocation Hall – University of Alberta
Free Admission

7:15PM – Lecture
Dániel Péter Biró and Harald Krebs (University of Victoria) will briefly summarize the publication history and the contents of the volume The String Quartets of Béla Bartók: Tradition and Legacy in Analytical Perspective (forthcoming with Oxford University Press in March 2014; the publication was funded in part by the Wirth Institute for Austrian and Central European Studies). Drs. Biró and Krebs will provide samples of analyses from the volume, with live illustrations by the Enterprise String Quartet.

8:00PM – Concert
Enjoy the artistry of soprano Catherine Abele, tenor Jacques Arsenault and pianist Viktoria Reiswich-Dapp in two famous early sets of songs by Berg and Schoenberg, followed by a performance of Schoenberg’s exceptional 2nd String quartet by the Enterprise String Quartet, with Catherine Abele. These works from the turn of the century will invite you to rediscover the intensity of feeling and thought that led these poets of words and music toward new horizons (with introductory comments by Goetz Dapp, Department of Drama, University of Alberta and Deen Larsen, Director of the Franz Schubert Institute, Baden bei Wien).
